This literacy game can be tweaked for any letter of the alphabet. For an Apples theme, let's use the letter A. This is a great circle time activity, or just something to do with your kid along with reading time.
You'll need:
Print out or make your own
Directions:
Print out the pages and use like flash cards. Show them the apple card first, a say "Aah aah apple." Instruct the kids to follow along with you. Go through the cards pointing to the letter A as you sound it out.
There's a copy for older kids with the apple A sound in the middle of the word. This may be too confusing if they don't already have a solid base of letter sounds and that words make letters. No need to speed ahead.
To make your own
Either print out pictures of animals and objects with the same letter A sound as Apple. Or look for items around your house. Honestly, even three things is enough for this age group. 20 and they'll get bored. This activity should just be a fun thing to do together that reinforces learning the sounds letters make, not a sit-down-it's-school-time-you-better-learn-now-that-you're-in-the-system-for-life-sucka type of deal. Daycare and preschool aged little humans should not be sitting down forced to learn. But- you can spend a little time each day or week on activities like these that become a fun game they'll actually enjoy doing. It's a great thing to do in between transitions, like before putting toys away or before getting ready to go outside.

Bonus-
Below is a cute song about the word apple you can play while they are doing art. I'm not affiliated with this song in anyway. Just found it while getting apple inspiration. We typically play music while we are eating snack and doing projects. I'll do a mix of classical music, "cool music" (Beatles, Grateful Dead, Jack Johnson, etc), or Disney songs (big hit with the 3 year old girls), but mostly we end up doing kids songs as they are the favorite. Super Simple Songs is a great one on Youtube that we love. They have playlists so you can just put it on for 30 mins to an hour and forget about it.
