Acorn Counting Game

Play this interactive and dramatic play game to teach and reinforce number value.

You'll Need:

Acorns or something that can substitute (Cotton balls died brown?)

Buckets or baskets

Directions:

Pretend you guys are squirrels! Hide the acorns in easy to find places around the room. You'll want enough for each child to find some, but not so many they won't be able to count (so not 30 each for 2 year olds!). Tell your kids you all are squirrels looking for your acorns! Give them a bucket or basket- something they can use to place the acorns they collect into. Once they have found enough gather back to count. Here you could just count what everyone has, and maybe even play a game where they try to switch around so everyone has the same amount (which is also fun and so educational since it's practice addition and subtraction), and then let them play with them and be little squirrels.

Or, you could keep going by turning this into a squirrel baking game. Take out baking sheets, measuring cups, bowls, and spoons. Let them pretend to make squirrel treats for winter!
