Apple Chips

These are so yummy! When my daycare was smaller these were a go-to snack. They are relatively easy, very cost effective, healthy, and seem like a treat to kids! Win-win-win-win. Essentially, you are dehydrating thin apple slices. It does take a good amount of time in the oven, so make sure you plan ahead.

Ingredients

-As many apples as desired (recommend two to start)

-Cinnamon

-Sugar or granular sweetener of choice (can omit, but they will be much more tart)

Directions:

Preheat your oven to 220 degrees F (110 C).

Cut your apples into very thin slices

In a bowl, mix your slices with cinnamon and sugar. Here you need to guesstimate how much you'd like. Typically we don't enjoy adding a lot of sugar to our kid's snacks. Try about 1/2 t each, per apple, and see how that goes. Some kids don't like a bunch of cinnamon, but some enjoy more flavor on their "chips". I'd probably do up to 1 t of cin and 1/2 of sugar for ours (per apple). But I'm super stingy on the sugar. Not for me, just for my kid. Momma needs that rush.

Once mixed, place on parchment paper on baking sheet. Put in oven for about 1 hr+. Check at the 45 minute mark. This will very greatly depending on how spaced out your apple slices are and how many are in the oven. Lots could take 2 hrs to get the desired effect. They are worlds better when they are crispier. Check every 15 minutes or so. If the edges are curled up, they are probably done. The more you do this, the easier it gets.
