Art Set Up: Making Snowmen

This is a hands on way to learn about snowmen. Set up your art table with various materials and sizes of circles cut out. This can be recycled cereal boxes, granola bar boxes (etc- ask parents to send in!) or construction paper. If you plan ahead, take a little extra time to paint all of these circles white (or put them out a day or two early for the children to paint). Once dry, look in your craft bin and see what you have. Pipe cleaners, beads, stickers, pom poms, felt pieces, construction paper shapes, cotton balls, dried beans, dyed pasta, sticks (can paint and save), rocks, pine needles.. put out various materials for the children to use to make eyes, noses, hats, scarves, ect. Put out pictures of snowmen or even children wearing snow gear. You can set up spots with frames or trays for individual workspaces, or just have all materials out. You can let the children glue their snowmen creations or take pictures of different creations.
