Art Set Up: Mixing Paint

Set up your art table with paint palettes per child. Set out paper (or scraps) for painting and mixing, and brushes to do so. Have white available for every child and the one to every color to mix with the white. Determine the risk factor. Can you set up self serve? Can you have paint in squeeze bottles or pump bottles? If not, set up the palettes with a few colors for each child to mix. You can switch what color(s) are available each day or week while their interest in with mixing. Let the children explore with what happens when you mix white in. You can have paint samples out that show colors getting lighter. You can cover the table with a large sheet of paper and let them paint and mix where they will. Tons of possibilities, make it work for your group!
