Color Matching Fingernail Painting

Writer's picture: Elizabeth GrussElizabeth Gruss

The Fingernail Painting Counting page is a color by numbers page that helps children see number value while also learning colors and about their body.

To make this with out the page, cut out hand shapes, enough for each child to have one or two. I like to outline on one page, then stack as many as my scissors can handle, as to cut several at a time and to maintain the shape. Alternatively, you could trace the children's hands.

Next, outline fingernails on each hand, or, if the hands are small, you can draw a line across where the fingers meet the palm, as to section off each finger entirely. This gives more space to color. You also might not need to section them off, if your kids understand what a finger is, they can just color each one. Play to the room.

Next, decide if you want to have the children color each finger or fingernail, or place glue or stickers on each nail or finger.

For coloring, you could just have them color away, fingernails or not (although they all will love the idea of 'painting the fingernails' whether it is actually with little brushes or not. Or, you could write or place stickers numbering off each finger. You could place a sheet with each number colored in for what it should correspond to. Or, again, they could make their own way, or even as a group they could decide.

For gluing or stickering, either cut out numbers or have sticker numbers to match. Write the number down on the finger or finger nail so the kids can match, or let them number themselves (depending on development). Or, number the fingers on the page and let them place that many stickers on the finger.

So many options! This is an easy thing to prep the night before while you are watching TV. Make extras while you are doing it to have on hand for another time! -Or use the print out below!
