This is a great way to start promoting independent block play. Block play is so important for daycare, preschool, and kindergarten aged children. It promotes visual thinking, problem solving, categorizing, basic engineering concepts, math, cause and effect, focus and concentration, gross motor and fine motor development,, the list goes on and on. Giving a prompt for your child can help them engage in play that they are still directing.
You'll need:
-Whatever block set/sets you may have.
-Item chosen
Directions:
Set up a block area for your child. Either choose an item or let them choose an item to attempt to hide in the blocks. They can make a house, a castle, a box, or maybe just pile them on. If they'd like to try other items, or multiple ones at a time, that is totally fine. If they get caught up in other block play, that is totally fine too! Set up the area and ask if they can hide the item. Let them direct how that happens. There are many directions they could take this, and they are all totally fine. We want them to explore and foster independent play.
