Ocean Colors Ice Painting

Writer's picture: Elizabeth GrussElizabeth Gruss

Plan this activity for a hot day! We love any excuse to get creative outside, and bonus, this activity is great for pre-writing. Toddlers need to practice wide full body drawing movements to help build their muscles. Once they have that, preschoolers can use this to practice letter lines and shapes, which helps strengthen their muscles so when Kindergarten comes, they can effectively hold a pencil to write. This activity is a great way for all ages to build the strength they need, plus work on color mixing, creativity, and is just fun!

You'll need:

Ice Tray

Popsicle sticks

Food Dye or Paint

Directions:

Fill an ice tray 3/4 with water. Either add paint or food dye to each spot. For this theme, fill with various blues, greens, and purples. You may also do red or yellow to mix with the blues once frozen. Place a Popsicle stick upright in each spot, and freeze. Take out once frozen and let your child go to town!
