Ocean Water Density

This is very similar to the What Floats? Experiment, but takes it to the next level for the older preschoolers and elementary aged children.

You'll need:

A few bowls, glasses, or tubs

Various objects to test

Salt

Spoon

Food Dye if desired

Measuring cups if desired

Paper and pen for recording, if desired

Directions:

Set up your containers with water. Order in a row. Let your child place different amounts of salt in each container. You can do this randomly, or you can pre-measure and record which container has which amount (and line up from least to most, the first with none). Then take turns seeing which objects float, and how different amounts of salt affect the results. You may help your child make a chart if desired.
