Ocean Waves Jar

Writer's picture: Elizabeth GrussElizabeth Gruss

This is a fun experiment to visualize sand and waves.

What you'll need:

Jar/plastic bottle

Sand

Salt

Water

Funnel

Bowl

Directions:

Fill your bowl 1/2 way with water. Next, let your child add salt. There are no exact measurements here. Monitor and let your child taste to see when it seems salty like the ocean. Watch the salt dissolve. Next, let your child pour sand into the jar using a funnel. Fill the bottom, perhaps 1/5-1/10 of the jar. Next, let your child pour the salt water into the jar. Seal, turn onto it's side, and let them shake and create waves. This is turns into a great calm down toy as well. Option to add blue food dye to the water.
