Playdough Letter Shape Mats

We will begin exploring letter shapes by matching playdough to the lines and shapes of letters.

You'll Need:

-Letter Shapes Print Out

-Playdough

Directions:

Print out the letter shapes or make your own. If you'd like, you can laminate these so they last longer, put in plastic sleeves, or glue on top of cardboard and cut to shape. There are shapes and lines for littles, and letters for the next level. You can put out all the cards and let your child pick, or put out a few, perhaps spelling a word (cat) or their name.

Place out playdough tools you think would work well, such as a a cutting tool and maybe a roller. Show them how to line up the playdough if you've never done an activity like this. If they just want to play with the playdough without the letter cards, that's totally fine too! They are still getting the exposure and will make letters and shapes when they desire. Plus, are working on other skills such as independent play, focus, and building valuable muscle strength needed to be able to write. Playdough is a pre-writing activity in itself. Don't push!
