Sand Art

This is a fun sensory project that also explores colors. We use regular sandbox sand, but you could certainly order white sand to get better colors.

You'll need:

Sand

Food Dye

Cups

Plastic bags optional

Sensory Bin or Jar

Directions:

Pour sand into as many cups as you'd like colors. Squeeze in food dye, one color per cup. I use a LOT. Start with maybe 10 drops per 1/2 cup and see if you need to add more. Stir. Children will love to help here. They can certainly add the dye and stir. You may also use a plastic bag to mix by shaking and rubbing. This is something children can do as well. Once you have your colors, decide what you'll do next. You may dump the colors into a sensory bin to mix and/or add small world play. You can add ocean animals, desert animals, shells, whatever. Alternatively, you can get out a funnel and alternate pouring colors into a jar to create a beautiful sand jar to keep. You will need to let the sand dry a little to use the funnel (it will get stuck otherwise). You can also use something for your child to scoop if you don't want to wait or don't have a fune
