Sand Writing

Writer's picture: Elizabeth GrussElizabeth Gruss

This is a fun prompt to switch up writing practice. Younger children can use this to practice writing lines and shapes, and all ages can use this to just draw.

You'll need:

Sand (colored is more fun)

Writing utensil

Tray or Sensory bin

Directions:

Set up a writing space for your child. Fill a tray or bin with about .5 - 1 inch of sand (or more, you can play around to see what works). We like to make our own colored sand. Make sure they have enough space in the tray or bin for the purpose. For instance, children practicing letters will not need as much space as those writing sight words. Across the sand from your child, place examples of shapes, letters, or words for them to copy. You are welcome to just let them write what they think of, but having something to copy usually keeps their interest for longer. Our Oceans Bundle has sight words and letters to print out.
