Shell Numbers

This is a fun way to explore number shapes and values, and can be done with other objects around the house such as pom poms, legos, stickers, etc. When your child is interested in a particular theme, it is fun to incorporate however, so, back to shells we are.

You'll need:

-Shells

-Paper

-Writing utensil

Directions:

Write a large number on each piece of paper, and draw the amount of that number in shell sized circles or in dots spaced out to accommodate shell size. For example, the number three would have three spots next to it. Set up a spot with your papers and shells (or other materials). Your child most likely will instinctively start placing the shells on the numbers and filling the spots. If not, you can certainly guide them through the first one or two. For older children- can they write the numbers for the younger children? Can they do it with out the number? Or from seeing the number off the paper? You can also do this prompt with letters and shapes!
