This is a fun way to learn the letters in your child's name.
You'll need:
Sponges
Paint
Dish soap (if desired)
Directions:
Trace block letters onto sponges and cut. One you have these, you can save them! Have a handmade set of sponge letters is a great resource for many activities, so it is not a waste of time or effort! Set up a spot with paint containers and the sponges. This can be outside on the deck, in front of a glass door, on a play table, on cardboard or inside on a piece of paper. Place one color of paint in each container. One is totally fine, but I always like to turn activities like this into a color mixing experiment as well. Using two primaries, two primaries and the color they make, two colors next to each other on the color wheel, or any color and white, are always fool proof combos that hands-on teach your child about the color wheel and mixing. I always like to point out what is happening, and let the child pick either what color to make or what colors to mix. Engaging like that helps the information stick. Of course, just one color is fine as well! Sometimes we have limited paint, or our kid is just really into a certain color. That's fine! Add some water and a little soap to your water. About 1/4 water and a drop of two or soap- however play around as some paints and soaps will need different amounts. More paint will be bolder on paper, but more soapy water will make it more fun for longer play. I'd suggest starting out by letting your child explore the letters. Older kids may be able to write their own name, some may want to see their name written to copy, and some may just want to play with the first letter of their name. This can be turned into a full sensory experience by adding more soap and water, and letting them squeeze and paint. Just water and soap (maybe a little paint or food dye) can turn this into a fun water play activity. I like to fill up a whole water table with colored soapy water and give sponges. We love to paint stumps this way! Let your child guide where they want to take this, and it can be a fun set up every day.
