Tracing Your Body

Writer's picture: Elizabeth GrussElizabeth Gruss

This is a fun way for your child to see their own size and perhaps test their knowledge of their internal organs.

You'll need:

Chalk and driveway or sidewalk

or

Drawing utensil and large sheet of paper

Directions:

Have your child lay down on your surface. Trace around them. Older kids love to help trace the younger ones. Next, discuss what's where on your insides. If you child already has some knowledge (heart, lungs, stomach most likely!), they can guess where they belong and draw. For younger kids, you can draw some basic ones like heart, lungs, brain, stomach, and discuss what they do. For older kids, you can mention other organs like kidneys, liver, and intestines, and have them either guess where they go, or do it together. Or just trace and have your child draw their face, hair, and clothes! Or make themselves a mermaid! Or draw a landscape around themselves. This can be catered to many different levels of interest and age.
