Wax Painting

Writer's picture: Elizabeth GrussElizabeth Gruss

This is a fun art activity for an ocean theme. You won't need much and it usually creates a beautiful picture.

You'll need:

Crayons

Paper

Paint

Paint brush or sponge

Directions:

Draw an ocean theme on the paper with crayons. Make sure the crayon part is filled in all the way. Draw fish, sharks, an octopus, mermaid, seaweed, whatever. Keep it simple with just one fish, or many. Older children can certainly draw their own. Make sure the water background is blank. Then, water down blue paint or use water color, to paint or sponge over the entire picture. The wax will mostly respell the paint, leaving a semi-murky underwater scene. It's a fun way to learn about materials and have a painting that is refridgerator worthy!
